Filmed over fifteen years, LIFT follows the incredible journey of Steven Melendez. As a kid growing up in homeless shelters in NYC, Steven had big dreams but no clear path. When he received a scholarship to study ballet after school, a talent he never suspected was unleashed. After achieving recognition on the world ballet stage as an adult, Steven returns to the Bronx homeless shelter in which he grew up to pay it forward to other Black and Brown kids who might otherwise have been counted out. His homecoming is fraught with unexpected pain and surprising victories. LIFT is a celebration of joy and triumph in the face of adversity.
