POINT AND SHOOT

Documentary - 2014 - USA - English - 83 minutes

After college, Matthew VanDyke abandons his sheltered upbringing for a roadtrip across North Africa and the Middle East in a self-stylized "crash course in manhood".  Living on the road with only a motorcycle and a videocamera to document his great adventure, he manages to smuggle himself into Libya where he befriends a group of resistance fighters. As the situation in Libya escalates and many of his friends are arrested or feared dead, he throws himself into the fray, endures danger, prison and torture all to help them liberate their country. Living through this remarkable and character-building experience that he has been waiting for charges him forever in ways he never could have imagined. Compiled primarily of the footage Matthew shot himself, Academy Award nominated filmmaker Marshall Curry's Point and Shoot is a revealing portrait of a renegade desperately looking for meaning, and finding it in the most unlikely place.
