Vision Portraits
Documentary - 2019 - USA - English - 79 minutes
Rodney Evans is an acclaimed filmmaker whose work achieved critical and commercial success (his breakthrough film Brother To Brother won him a Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival). But Rodney's identity as a filmmaker is thrown for a curve when he is diagnosed with a degenerative ocular condition, causing severe visual impairment. Trying to embrace life as a visually impaired filmmaker, Rodney begins exploring the works of other visually impaired artists including a Manhattan photographer, a Bronx-based dancer, and a Canadian writer, as well as digging deep inside himself and pushing through to find a new cinematic language to explore. This hopeful and ultimately triumphant film, is a tantalizing meditation on blindness and creativity, and one that will open minds to possibilities that have never before been thought of.
